Hello,

 

 

I'm Zara M. the Opulent Mutts Pet Portrait Artist.

I started sketching people's dogs ten years ago when I moved to the countryside to live with my boyfriend at the time. We moved from London to live in the middle of nowhere, somewhere down south. But this meant I had to close down my puppy care business, as I don't drive. So I was stuck in the cottage all day on my own with my dog.

 

I've always loved to draw and I found that drawing people's pets was a fun way to make some online friends and feel a bit more connected to the world, as well as earn a bit of income to put towards the bills. It didn't really take off until a year down the line after we had moved further south by the sea. Sadly we went through a breakup around this time, but I found that drawing people's pets and sharing my work online was the one thing that helped me get through that very painful experience.

After living alone by the sea drawing dogs all day, I decided to move back to London to be closer to family. I restarted my puppy care business, and returned to pursuing my dream career as a writer. This meant that my pet portraits took a back seat, but I continued to take a few commissions here and there, especially around Christmas time.

​

Well, I'm now a full-time professional writer, and I've moved back out to the countryside by myself, this time up north. I live in a gorgeous cottage with my dog and my cat, and I thought it was about time I took out my art materials again to help me get to know people in the lovely little market town where I live. So I'm re-launching Opulent Mutts and I'm on a mission to draw all the lovely dogs here.
